Unions in the Dakotas: Giving to Our Youth So They May Succeed
Every year, credit unions in the Dakotas give away educational
scholarships to students in North
and South Dakota. Why? Because we believe in the value of education,
the future of the Dakotas, and we support our youth.
Each year,
we invite high school seniors to stop by their local credit union
to apply for available scholarships. This year, the Mid-America
Credit Union Association will be awarding ten, $500 scholarships
to eligible credit union members. Please click here (pdf 161kb)
to view details on application and eligibility requirements.
If
you have any questions about the Dakotas’ Credit
Union High School Financial Scholarship, please contact the
MACUA office at 1-800-279-6328. Best of Luck to you all! |

| Credit Unions For Kids |
| |
Every
child deserves the chance to run and play. Unfortunately,
too many children suffer from medical conditions
that keep them from doing so. That is why America’s credit
unions established Credit Unions for Kids. North Dakota is a
part of this program and a partner in raising funds to benefit
the Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization
whose mission is to raise money and awareness to benefit
these special children.
|
| |
What is Credit Unions For Kids?
Credit Unions for Kids
is a collaboration
of credit unions, chapters, leagues, and business partners engaged
in fund raising activities to benefit 170 Children’s Miracle
Network affiliated children’s hospitals serving 14 million
kids, while gaining numerous benefits for credit unions. |

People Helping People
Credit
unions were built on the philosophy of “people helping people.” This
philosophy that all North Dakota credit unions display goes hand in glove with
the mission of the Children’s Miracle
Network. Credit
unions care about their communities and Credit Unions for Kids demonstrates this
care

Cartridges for Kids
To further demonstrate credit unions' philosophy of "people helping people," we
support the recycling of empty inkjet, laser, fax, and copier cartridges, as
well as used cell phones, to benefit Children's Miracle Network through Cartridges
for Kids. |

MeritCare Children's Hospital
North Dakota is so very fortunate to have its very own children’s
hospital in the state located in Fargo. All of the funds raised
through the numerous North Dakota credit union fundraising projects
go toward improvements and enhancements in our local children’s
hospital that benefit our very own children and communities.
MeritCare
Children’s Hospital is the only
children’s hospital between Minneapolis and Seattle to
be designated at the highest institutional level. Actively involved
in national and local children’s medical research studies,
the Children’s Hospital staff brings the latest medical
advances to children in our area. |

Credit Union Miracle Month
Every October, credit unions celebrate Co-op Month and International
Credit Union Day to show appreciation to their members. In addition
to these events, North Dakota credit unions also celebrate Credit
Union Miracle Month.
Credit Union Miracle Month is the one month throughout the
year that all credit unions join efforts in raising money for
the
Children’s Miracle Network. Each credit union decides
on its own fundraising project, but all need the help of their
members
to raise the funds.
In October, we invite you to join us in celebrating Credit
Union Miracle Month by stopping into your local credit union
and making
a contribution to the Children’s Miracle Network. Every
dollar contributed goes to help kids in North Dakota receive
the best healthcare treatment.

| Community Involvement |
| |
Community involvement is a large part of what makes credit
unions so unique. This is where they can put their people helping
people philosophy into full force. Credit unions throughout the
state participate in a variety of community involvement activities
such as Relay for Life, Giving Tree, Christmas in April, food/school
supply drives, charitable tournaments, youth and school activities,
etc.
Some of the charitable organizations we contribute to at the
state level are as follows: Children’s Miracle Network,
Elks Camp Grassick, Caring Program for Children, American Cancer
Society, Salvation Army, etc.
