The North Dakota Credit Union League, headquartered
in Bismarck, is the statewide association of credit unions. The
League is an educational and informational resource—a place
to turn for answers. By linking member credit unions with the values,
methods, and techniques developed by the movement, the League enriches
credit union growth and stability.
The League is the first source of assistance for groups seeking
to form new credit unions or join an existing one. It is the credit
union's voice in the halls of government and is a liaison with the
news media. Formed in 1937, the League continues to provide services
that create unity, promote the cooperative spirit, and strengthen
the credit union movement.
Owned and controlled by its members, the League is governed by a
board of directors elected by and from its members. It is a source
of mutual support and assistance for its credit unions, and above
all, upholds the principles on which North Dakota credit unions
stand.
Mission Statement
The purpose of this League shall be to: |
• |
act in partnership with credit unions |
• |
promote the philosophy and uniqueness of credit unions, and |
• |
successfully meet present and future challenges by providing
quality education, legislative leadership, and reliable dues-supported
services and products. |
As credit unions in North Dakota exist to serve
their members, so the North Dakota Credit Union League exists to
serve its member credit unions. There are five primary areas of
work done by the North Dakota Credit Union League on behalf of the
member credit unions and their members— legal and legislative,
operations, education and publications, marketing and advertising,
and the service corporation.
The League monitors all legislation affecting credit unions at the
state level to assure that the interests of its members are utmost
in the minds of legislators. On the national level, the League works
with CUNA's Washington office to help guide and develop the passage
of national legislation of importance to credit unions.
Operational and technical information is made available to credit
unions to help them deal with the various complexities of today's
business world. The strength of this service is the League's consultant
who makes periodic visits to individual credit unions to answer
questions, discuss concerns, and talk about helpful services and
programs. Assistance is also provided to organize new credit unions
and to expand existing ones so that more and more North Dakotans
will realize the benefits of credit union membership.
The League's communications lie mainly in its publications, marketing,
and advertising. In partnership with CUNA, publications and informational
newsletters are furnished to answer the needs of volunteers and
credit union professionals. Through statewide advertising, the League
markets to members and potential members across North Dakota. Advertising
efforts of the League aid in generating interest and recognition
for credit unions and the League.
An integral part of League services to credit unions is the education
and training of credit union management, staff, and volunteers.
A wide variety of educational programs are offered throughout the
year to meet the growing need for training and pertinent information.
In addition, self-study programs are available through the partnership
with CUNA for all credit union staff, management, and volunteers.
These programs address all areas of credit union operations and
cater to everyone involved in the operation of a credit union.
The North Dakota Credit Union League's affiliate, the Regional Service
Center, offers personal service to credit unions by supplying cost-effective
products and services needed for their operations. The focus of
the Regional Service Center is on data processing, share draft processing
and printing, computer and cabling installation, individual retirement
accounts, Visa credit and debit cards, money orders, major equipment
purchases, and Form 1099 reporting. Financed by modest fees, the
Regional Service Center is governed by the same directors who guide
the League.
