Consulting

Credit Union Consulting Services
The North Dakota Credit Union League’s consulting services offers your credit union a consultant who is the personal, day-to-day link between the League and your credit union. The League consultant is available to provide immediate assistance in a variety of areas.

Technical Support

The state and federal rules and regulations affecting the day-to-day operations of credit unions are not numerous, but highly technical and frequently revised. The League consultant is responsible for keeping the credit unions informed by:

  • Providing technical support to credit unions via email, fax, and/or phone to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Providing updates and changes on regulations and compliance issues via publications, emails, and/or faxes.
  • Assisting credit unions with developing, writing, and updating policies and/or procedures.
  • Researching compliance, operational, and technical questions for credit unions.

Research and Development

The League is constantly involved in studying new products and services for credit unions such as SBA, Courtesy Pay, ACH training, etc., which are beneficial to members and also cost-effective for credit unions. Services which are currently being provided to credit unions and their members as a result of this research include CD Imaging and Online Share Draft Processing.

Other Assistance
Attendance at chapter meetings and credit union annual meetings is a high priority for the League. Through these venues, we continue to update you on the events happening at the League. In addition, onsite consulting to credit unions at least once per year, or more on an as-needed basis, is provided in the areas of management, operations, and long-range planning. The League also provides assistance to credit unions looking to expand their field of membership or establish branch offices, and assists groups in chartering new credit unions.

Refulatory Relations
Regulatory relations alerts your credit union to new or revised laws and regulations and explains their impact. Responsibilities in this area include interpreting laws and regulations and assisting credit unions in keeping their forms in compliance with state and federal regulations.

In addition, this area assists your credit union in contacting and communicating with government agencies, thus maintaining a relationship to monitor agency activities in order to present credit union views and reduce unnecessary regulatory burden.

Extension of Credit Union Service
One of the purposes of the League is to extend to all people within the state of North Dakota the opportunity to participate in the services and benefits of credit union membership. Through promotional programs, the League works with credit unions in the expansion of their current fields of membership and with interested groups and communities in the selected organization of new credit unions.

Placement Service
The League acts as a referral party by making credit unions aware of interested applicants seeking employment, as well as the availability of credit union staff openings through the League publications and website.

Stabilization
The purpose of the League stabilization program is to aid in the development of credit unions in North Dakota, and assist credit unions facing difficulties such as insolvency, poor management, or liquidations. The program is predicated upon the understanding that the liquidation of a credit union is the last resort.

The main objective of the program is to protect, promote, and preserve credit union membership in the state. It provides for the security of credit union member savings and investments and strengthens the sound image of North Dakota credit unions.

Planning and Training

The League provides a step-by-step approach to planning, goal setting, and training. This fee based program utilizes the ideas of staff and volunteers to systematically look at your current situation and formulate ways in which to move forward. The League consultant is available to do the following:

  • Facilitate planning sessions for credit unions
  • Conduct training for volunteers, including boards of directors and committees, on duties and responsibilities.

Mentor Program

The Mentor Program enables credit unions in need of some assistance in various areas of operation to form partnerships with credit unions that have expertise in those areas and that are willing to assist them.

The Mentor Program was developed with the strict intention to uphold confidentiality between the partnering credit unions while providing advice within a credit union’s capability and expertise.
